Our Timetable

Introduction

We will cover all the background general information you need for the UCAT:

  • Why do I need to do the exam?

  • What the exam looks like? The five sections, their timings and the number of questions

  • How is the exam marked and scored?

  • The timeline between now and exam day

  • Your study plan

  • The MASSIVE importance of timing

  • Productivity and motivation

  • Resources and past papers

  • What's a good score?

Abstract Reasoning

 1hr

AR is one of the wackiest UCAT sections and one that's near impossible without very solid techniques. Luckily, there's only a limited number of pattern types that can be tested. We'll give you concrete strategies you can use for every single type of question, give you common rules for finding these mystical patterns and do tons of practise. You'll definitely feel yourself improving by the end of the hour.

  • The five-step method to answering questions

  • A secret acronym that summarises all the techniques you need

Verbal Reasoning

1hr

The verbal reasoning section really tests your reading and analytical ability under harsh time pressure. We will go through how to manage your time (to the nearest 5 seconds - yes, this level of precision is needed to do well!) and how to skim read effectively. The same sorts of key words crop up again and again, and we willl teach you how to recognise these and use them to your advantage.

  • Key words and skim reading

  • How to ace True/False/Can't Tell questions

This section is essentially basic GCSE maths - what could go wrong, right? Unfortunately, the UCAT is designed to confuse you and it is all to easy to lose track of the time under pressure. However, our techniques will allow you to recognise and then systematically tackle each question type.

  • How to estimate, round, convert and multiply at speed

  • How to use the whiteboard and calculator most effectively

Quantitative Reasoning

1hr

Decision Making

 1hr

This is a section of the UCAT that is all too easy to underestimate - but it can really boost your score if you follow a few simple rules for every type of question. There are no less than seven different question types; recognising what you are dealing with quickly and having a system to answer it can make such a difference.

  • Basic principles of logic

  • Rules for any chart/table/graph you come across

Situational Judgement Test

 1hr

This section is scored differently to the others, and your score here will sit alongside, rather than directly influence, your overall score. Universities can place particularly high weight on this section, because rather than testing any academic ability it tests your ability to apply ethical principles to clinical scenarios and gets you to think like a 'good doctor' would. SJTs are commonplace all the way through your medical career - we will give you all the information you need to ace your first one!

  • Ethical principles you need to know about

  • Common divergences from what you think is 'common sense'
